Shades

Hello, remember me?

Remember

Boom, boom, boom,

Boom, ba, boom

Ba, boom, ba boom, boom.

Black dots on white glasses

White light, black lampshades

White smoke, cigarettes

Black chair, ink

Bedspread black, white sheet

Black night, white snow

Pink pillows, white tonight

Black drapes once gray

Shades of black

Splotches of white

Fusing, merging,

Fading

If I were an artist I’d change it all

I’d change the black-

To white.

And the white I’d make it black.

Pitch black 

And I’d change them again and again.

Marilyn Kurtz, Ph.D, was an adj. Professor in the English department at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York. She received her doctorate from The City University of New York, with a dissertation [Virginia Woolf: Reflections and Reverberations American University Studies Volume 119 of American university studies: English language and literature, ISSN 0741-0700 Publisher: P. Lang (1990)]. She lives in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. She edited and wrote for magazines and  was co-poet of the week on Poetry Superhighway. She has passed on her learning to her students, who appreciate her.
